USA Boxing sanctioned amateur boxing event

USA Boxing official guide

BECOME AN
OFFICIAL.

Officials make fair, safe competition possible. Learn the membership, training and local mentoring path toward serving as a judge, referee, timekeeper or event official.

Six clear steps

LEARN THE RULES.
SERVE THE SPORT.

USA Boxing says prospective officials must register each calendar year, complete required SafeSport education, and pass the online officials test or attend an in-person clinic provided through the Local Boxing Committee.

01

Register Each Year

Create or renew your USA Boxing non-athlete membership and select the official role. Keep the membership current for sanctioned activity.

02

Complete Safety Requirements

Finish the required SafeSport course and any background screening displayed in your member profile. Do not assume payment alone completes eligibility.

03

Test or Attend a Clinic

Complete the USA Boxing online officials test or attend an approved in-person officials clinic offered through your Local Boxing Committee.

04

Contact Your LBC

Connect with the Arizona Local Boxing Committee and its Chief of Officials. Ask about the next clinic, orientation and supervised event opportunities.

05

Receive Your Passbook

Follow the current instructions for confirmation, photos and your officials passbook. Bring proper credentials whenever you work a sanctioned event.

06

Work and Advance

Learn through assignments and evaluation. New officials may begin with supporting roles before advancing into judging and refereeing responsibilities.

Officials must stay neutral. The job is to apply the rules consistently, protect the athletes and support a fair event—not to advocate for a particular boxer or gym.

Officials questions

STEP INTO
THE RIGHT ROLE.

Do I need boxing experience?

Prior boxing knowledge helps, but the official pathway is built around education, rules, clinics, testing, observation and supervised experience.

Do new officials immediately referee bouts?

Not necessarily. Assignments depend on training, evaluation, local needs and the judgment of the officials leadership team.

What jobs do officials perform?

Sanctioned events rely on referees, judges, timekeepers, inspectors, weigh-in personnel and other trained event staff.

Where do I find an Arizona clinic?

Contact the Arizona LBC or Chief of Officials and ask for the next scheduled clinic and orientation opportunity.

Requirements can change. Confirm current details on the official USA Boxing Officials page.
